Why America still left (west) of maps and atlases of the world?
Would not a map of the United States and Europe on the right / Africa at the extreme left is more correct to consider that the earth is round?
Mainly for 2 reasons: 1) historic convention. Cards Western civilization is in. .. Western civilization, ie Europe. The Americans have been discovered by marine WEST, as the new "World" has been portrayed as Western Europe. Once that cartographers have adopted the Convention, no one (except China) saw the need change. 2) Implementation in practice. The Pacific Ocean is much bigger than the Atlantic Ocean, making it easier to show the Americas to be grouped with others, with a relatively Atlantic Ocean and close the gap. These days, the production of digital maps are quickly becoming Unless an agreement.
