What process could be responsible for differences in age between Hawaii and the oldest rocks?
Locating a map Seabed .... The oldest rocks 5.5mya Kauai, Maui and rocks may be less than 0.8 and 1.3mya. The rocks of Hawaii are still 0.7ma younger. What process could be responsible for differences in age?
The Hawaiian Islands are formed (still in training) caused by volcanoes a hotspot in the mantle. Most volcanoes form at plate boundaries. However, the island of Hawaii are in the inner part of the Pacific plate. This plate moves, but the hot spot beneath the plate does not move. For them, the plate moves as a new volcano will start in place that is directly above the hotspot. Older volcanoes away from the hot zone and are most active volcanoes, islands only. Thus, the islands that are farther from the active volcanic island older and the oldest rocks of the island, while the active volcano is the youngest rocks. BTW: As for the configuration of these islands are indicated on the plate Pacific is in motion.
